Introduce yourself

Non-project-specific matters-- talk about art, music, writing, coding and the creative process.

The playground industry is even more secretive than the video game industry. So, not yet :( But within the next month or two I'll start releasing some micro games that don't quite fit in with the playground projects :)

Hi, everyone.

I'm pierce. I'm a new media design student with one more year of school to go. I like to play around with flash as3 and I now feel like I'm ready to start making finished games with it. This place seems like a great community. Hope I can help in any way to make it more awesome. : )

Hi there.

I'm a french developer. My main language is python. I'm a casual player and casual game maker. I'm 31 years old, I am married and have two kids (and so I don't have much time to make games). I use linux and open source products and I like to release my games freely.

Welcome, pierce, court-jus, and everyone else! It's always fascinating to me to see the different kinds of people that make games.

Hello!

I'm Sebastian Strandberg, an aspiring game developer currently residing in Turku, Finland.

The tools I'm currently using are AS3 and C#, in combination with Chevy Ray's Flashpunk and the lovely Player.IO.

Edit: oh, I should say, I'm here because I'm interested in the more long-form "pageants", having very much enjoyed Ludum Dare but wondered what I could do with something that offers a bit more time.

Hi everyone, I'm Anthony. I'm mainly a programmer but try my hand at design as well. I'm fascinated with worldbuilding and AI and want to one day make tools that faciliate the two.

Me and a friend have started up a company called Cliche Studio.

Hi everyone!

I'm Pippin. I've been a video games academic for quite a while now (did my Ph.D. on games). I made a few random little games when I was very young (in HyperCard and MacroMedia Director!) but only really got down to making games "properly" at the start of 2011 because I started teaching a programming course at the Center for Computer Games Research at the IT University of Copenhagen.

Since then I've made a few games, mostly using Flixel and FlashBuilder to put them together and drawing the art either in Pixen (now that's a love-hate relationship!) or Manga Studio. I only put my games on my personal website, but a couple of them have made some waves out in internetland - most recently "Let's Play: Ancient Greek Punishment", but also a game called "The Artist Is Present".

Anyway, I've worked on games mostly in isolation for the last year and thought it would be great to start 2012 by trying out the community thing! So far as I can tell, this seems like a great crowd, and I like the idea of the pageants, so I'm looking forward to being part of all this. I should also say that I'm interested in making a few more "game-like" games this year, and thought I'd be able to get some wisdom on that here.

Hello,

My name is Michael and I've been making games on the Flash platform for like 8 years now and just recently decided to try to make a living going full indie. I actually found this forum a while back I think through Jasper's blog - completely forgot about it - then came back to it via a link on Terry's twitter and am now super pumped to be a part of it.

I'm now making Flash games from dream-bot.com (which looks like poopy) and am hoping to get 2 new projects out on the web soon.

EDIT:
Oh yea, and I'm from the midwest and have never actually met another game dev so am excited to be able to talk to some via internets.

Welcome all!

Pippin, I was one of the people who thought they could win at Zeno's punishment by forcing the counter down to .99999... Then you got rid of the numbers. Pure evil. Glad to see you here :)

Nice to see someone else from the lonely, lonely midwest here, Michael!

Hi Michael - will look forward to seeing what your new projects are all about!

And hi there, Ian - since I have the opportunity, it's great to put the name to the game and tell you I thought Feign was really excellent! Beautiful looking thing.

I like this place already, it's a fitting title for the website. And thanks Pippin, I also look forward to seeing your projects as well as many others.

Ian, I might have just gotten addicted to Star Swing.

Hello all,

My name's Jake, I'm a graphic designer recently out of college. I found some awesome info here on getting started with game development, just as a hobby in my free time. Slowly learning some Flixel. Seems like an awesome group of people :]

Hello everyone,

My name is Zac and I am a computer science student in Australia. I have been coding for 4-5 years and have recently taken interest in developing games. I have started a small 2d game engine in my spare time over the summer (yes, summer starts in December here in Australia), with the intention of developing some small games during the year. I am writing the engine in Java using JOGL and JBox2d.
