Introduce yourself

Non-project-specific matters-- talk about art, music, writing, coding and the creative process.

Introduce yourself

Postby Mattias Gustavsson » Sat Jul 02, 2011 7:09 pm

As we'll be hanging out here, making games and such, it would be good to get to know people a bit. Post a little something about yourself in this thread if you like. Feel free to post pictures, screenshots and links to your blog or website - anything you feel like sharing with the rest of us, really.

So I might as well go first:
I've been having a go at making games since I was 10, and now I'm 36. This doesn't mean I'm particularly good at making them, as most of the time has been focused on the programming side (including about 10 years of working as a games programmer). It's really just recently that I'm beginning to learn how to actually make games, rather than just code them. And I find it very hard, but also a lot of fun.

I've made a few small game so far, and you can check them out on my blog I use a 3d package called Poser to make my graphics, and my own game engine and C++ to do the code. The game engine is public domain, so check it out if you are interested.

Now, let's hear it from the rest of you :-)

Postby SoManyNinjaRobotMen » Sat Jul 02, 2011 7:25 pm

Name's Rob, (SoManyNinjaRobotMen is an anagram of my full name, bar two letters)
I'm a 26 yr old hairy welsh guy. A recent graduate of the NCCA's computer animation and visualisation course, been interested in making games pretty much all my life. I use C++ and OpenGL or at least I have in my limited capacity.
I've created a rudimentary game engine which I will be working on sporadically, using OpenGL and Fmod, linking the two together because I like mixing graphics with sound.
I've got plenty of ideas mulling around however I've yet to get them down, I find being around and communicating with other people a massive help in that regard.
I've got some stuff on my site, mostly done in Maya/Photoshop/Gimp. yeah, if you're interested it's at: http://robanthonyjames.com
IRL I relax like most people, by setting stuff on fire and spinning it around myself, which is nice.

Hello!

I'm Rolpege, my real name is Abel Toy, I'm very young and I like to make Flash games with FlashPunk. I'm very active in the FlashPunk community. I also know Ruby (+ Ruby on Rails), a little bit of Python, a bit of PHP, HTML + CSS (If you consider those as a language :P) and Javascript. I'm one of the admins at PunkWeek.net (and the one who did the website), I created and mantain the community-collaborative Punk.UI project (UI library for FlashPunk), and I make games with Chris Thodesen, other games with Dan Elvins and some individual projects I don't have time to work on.

I really enjoy coding games. In real life, I go out with my friends, do exercise (cardio + muscular), sleep (a lot. it's fun), watch horror movies (or comedy movies, but some horror movies make me laugh anyways), and listen to some music (mostly metal stuff).

I could continue talking about me (well, not really, nothing else comes to mah mind right now), but if you really want to know more about me (I guess not), speaking with me is a good way! I'm very friendly (really) and it's hard for me to get angry at you :P (although it's possible).

"SoManyNinjaRobotMen" is such a great name anagram!

Hello all! I'm Ian, I've been making games since I was 14, 6 years so far. The only game of any note that I've made is Feign, but if you want to see my other games I put pretty much everything up on my website, even my horrid first games which do nothing but embarrass me now :)

I'm currently working through college for a double major in art (printmaking, specifically) and creative writing. I just wasn't satisfied with having only one useless degree. After college I plan on having some kind of existential crisis.

Hello, super friends!

I'm Nick. I recently left the commercial games industry after ten years, as they are a shower of bastards.
I'm now part of The Indie Stone, working on Project Zomboid. (http://ProjectZomboid.com)

Hey, my name is Chance. I'm an 18 year old british soon-to-be University student in September, and I started making games about two years ago. I've dabbled in an out of programming, and actually got a huge passion for it last year. So far I've managed to get a contract job for a research project which I'm still currently working on.
I love programming because it's puzzle solving to me, and I just love puzzles. I spent the last year or so learning C++, and I can program in it, but not fluently per se. I'm still struggling trying to figure out how to do things _properly_, and I managed to finally get my hands on an android phone a few days ago, so I'm hoping I can make some pretty bog-standard apps for that. (To begin anyway.)

I'm joining SFC to hopefully get some more inspiration, guidance, friends, or anything that will potentially benefit me, and this seems like the place.

I look forward to meeting all of you.

(If you would like to check out my blog and see what I've been up to or doing, you can do so here.)

Hey gang! I'm Darien. I'm 30 years old, and I've been making games since I was about four (the glory days of pounding on the C64). I'm completely pants at art, though, so I've fallen progressively farther out of step as graphics have improved; I'd love to get back into the process more regularly.

Jerro, Slow here. I enjoy coding, and making things that never get finished. I came straight out of gamemaker with hopes of actually going somewhere. Right now I'm working with as3(Flashpunk). It's a bit like Java so I hope it gives me a head start at learning it. I sprite and draw a bit. I used to do a bit of music but I didn't like it, so I stopped.

I'm working on an engine in Flashpunk, it's going pretty well. I lost most of the motivation for it when I was informed I should be coding games, not engines. So eh...idk how that's gonna turn out.

Hope I make some good associates here.

Hey everyone, I'm Chris Chung. I'm a recent graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Interactive Media & Game Development program as an artist with a minor in Computer Science. I currently reside on the East Coast of the US in Massachusetts, not too far from Boston and the gaming community there. I've been meaning to get involved with the indie game community so I thought this would be a great way to meet people!

I initially wanted to program games and make art as well until I found out that I can't really code for anything. :D I focus on 2D art (traditional and digital) and love making pixel art. Recently I've been experimenting with making my own game(s) in flixel but I'm also pretty good at Game Maker. I'm also currently working with the Higgins Armory museum in Worcester making 3D and 2D art for a virtual jousting game exhibit. I'm constantly fixing up my website (http://www.chrixeleon.com) and I try to write some stuff on my blog when I feel like it (http://chrixeleon.blogspot.com).

In my free time (which is most of the time, lately) I play a lot of games, specifically Nintendo games and some PC ones. I've recently been playing games on my 3DS, competitive Pokémon with a group of college friends, and TF2 and Minecraft. (I'm always looking for Friend Codes or Steam Friends, too!) I look forward to meeting new people and maybe working on some games with you guys!

Hi, I'm Evan of Pixelante.

I'm a generalist indie developer working mainly in Flash. Games I've made included Dragon Age Legends: Remix 01, ImmorTall, Pixel Legions and Hunted Forever. I also recently started doing some PHP/MySQL web development, writing articles on game design, and toying around with making a rapid 3D level building tool.

I'm Dan, I used to work in the commercial games industry on big manshoot games, and before that on mods and making little games at university. Now I making an indie game, called Free Company that I've already posted about elsewhere on these forums. I used to live in Coventry for a long time but I'm now based in London. I work mainly in C++ and on PC focused stuff.

I have a blog here covering my ramblings on game development and updates on the development of Free Company.

Hey all, welcome to the forum :)

I'm Terry, and like a lot of people here I've been making games since I was a kid. Started doing it full time a couple of years ago, and since then I've made lots and lots of small games, the best known of which is probably VVVVVV. I have a website at distractionware.com, and I'm on twitter as @terrycavanagh.

Postby Jasper » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:23 pm

Hi I'm Jasper and I release stuff under 'superflat games', which I do full-time at the moment. Working on a 2D pychological horror adventure game, my last game was Soul Brother which went out on Adult Swim.

Started on the ZX Spectrum as many brits did around my age, got more into it in the Amiga era using Amos. Then gave up completely when 3D hit for about a decade. Worked in music for that time, then entered the mainstream game industry for a bit, now trying my luck in the indie minefield. I love every minute of it, so I hope I can keep it going!

Nice to meet you all, look forward to playing your games...
