Introduce yourself

Non-project-specific matters-- talk about art, music, writing, coding and the creative process.

*facepalm* Ever the optimist as always. I will force you to finish something soon!

Suze was at one point my artist on the Journal project I had to abandon, and she did some awesome work on it. She's been trying to do her own smaller games and some of the stuff is quite nice.

Hey Everyone,

I'm Phil Tibitoski and I'm an independent developer based in the Chicago area. I'm currently part of the Young Horses dev team working on Octodad 2 and I was also part of the original Octodad dev team. Check out the original game at http://www.octodadgame.com if you get the chance because it's available for free. I'm also a member of IndieCityGames which is a cool indie game developer coalition for the Chicagoland area http://www.indiecitygames.com . I'm always interested in cool and crazy ideas so I figured this would be a cool place to both get and give feedback. ChevyRay was the one who I found out about this place from and I'm excited to be here.

My name is Jonathan, and right now, I'm 16.

I haven't actually finished a game yet, but I started one a few months ago and I'm hoping to finish it while I have time off during summer. It's a simple flash game, but after it's done, I have plenty more ideas for other games I could do.

I'm mostly a programmer, although I'm working on trying to improve my spritework. With music, I'm fairly hopeless. ;P

Indie games have always seemed special to me, and now I almost exclusively play them. I hope that eventually I can make a game that will feel as great to someone else as some of those games have felt to me.

My name is Andrew, and I'm 20 years old. I've been making games for almost ten years now. When I was a kid, I used to love playing around with video games which had level editors. However, I got into game development after I began to feel limited by the level editors, and wanted more freedom in my creations.

As of right now, I'm kind of in a "learning phase". I'm less interested in finishing projects, as I am just experimenting with things, and trying to improve on my understanding of game development and the creative process. I think the last full-length game I actually finished was back in 2003...

I like to delve a little bit into all the different aspects of creating a game. I have most experience with the programming side of things, but I also delve into art, music, writing, and design. Most recently, I've been working mainly on improving my abilities in music composition.

Glad to meet you guys :)

Postby PoV » Sun Jul 03, 2011 5:36 pm

Hey I'm Mike, sometimes called PoV (Pawv).

I play the role of overlord and dictator at Ludum Dare. I've been making games most of my life, first starting on the Commodore 64 a gazillion years ago, but it didn't become real until I started making games on DOS with Turbo Pascal, DJGPP (GCC), and eventually doing homebrew GameBoy development. That homebrewness netted me a job, so I did a stint in the game industry from 1999-2005, before jumping ship and going full-time-indie.

Today I'm better known for my work on a game called Smiles, which has been ported to EVERY mobile platform known to man, as well as computers, tablets and some upcoming TV set-top boxes. The game was a finalist in the Independent Games Festival in 2009, and won me a Car.

Currently I'm working on a game I've released very little information about called "Alone, The".

Anyways, I'm glad you guys started a new forum. I've been meaning to do this on Ludum Dare for years, but alas, I just don't have the time to moderate one. Hopefully I'll have a thing or two to say here.

Hi, I'm Bidds.

I've been making games for around 12 years now, most recently as the design director at Curve Studios. We made Explodemon and Fluidity/Hydroventure, amongst other things. When I'm not making games at work, since I'm a bit addicted to making them, I tend to make games in my spare time too, idly fannying around with ideas away from the pressures of work. I'm currently putting the finishing touches to an action game I made in Game Maker with the working title of Stealth Bastard, which I hope to release in a month or so. Since I've got two kids, and a busy work week, the idea was to make something simple that I could finish. I'll probably start looking at Unity from then on to stretch out into 3D for my hobby projects.

I have a blog (http://www.onebitbeyond.com), which mostly just tells the story of the making of Explodemon, but which I'll start updating again as soon as Stealth Bastard nears the finish line. You can catch me on Twitter moaning about my health as http://twitter.com/onebitbeyond.

Glad to meet you all, and looking forward to seeing what comes of the SFC!

Hello all! I'm Gered King, 26, and am currently living in Toronto, Canada.

Not much to say really, I've been claiming that I make games since I was 12 or 13 (with good 'ol QBasic). Never really finished anything of note. A few projects have gotten pretty far along but usually something causes me to stop (motivation, programmer art, etc.). Hoping to break that trend with a current project of mine!

Anyway, looking forward to hanging out here!

Hey hey!

I'm Eddie Cameron, unknown indie dev extraordinare? I started doing games about two years ago, so far I've put out an obscure Source mod called tedium http://www.moddb.com/mods/tedium, and some other random stuff http://grapefruitgames.com/portfolio-2/, mostly with Robert Yang (actual indie dev extraordinare).

From New Zealand, but spent the past six months tottering about the US, until I got stuck in New York for the meantime.
Ummmm, so....yeah. Pleased to meet you.

Greetings friends of the past present and future. This is a transmission from none other than Kyle Pulver, generally cool dude and totally hip maker of games sometimes.

I'm super excited about the super friendship club and hopefully in the coming months I can post some rad games here. I have a bazillion game jam prototypes that I need to finish so that I can give them to an internet in a heart shaped box with one of those really fancy gold shiny bows on it. Like the ones that you don't want to ruin so you peel it off really carefully first and then you think you're going to save it so you put it on top of your dresser in your room but eventually you accidentally set something on it because you're out of space and you forgot it was there so crush the bow and it looks all deformed and then you think "Why did I even keep this thing anyway I can just go to Party Up and buy a bag of like 20 of them."

Anyway I have some games here: http://kpulv.com/stuff/game/

That's all for now! ;D

I've been programming since I was 9~ ish, I always wrote little games for myself. I ended up getting into web development by accident a few years ago and ended up doing that professionally, but it made me hate my life! So I've been working on a few things to try and get into writing games fulltime, we'll see! It's my first love.

I do LD now and again. I even got 2nd once!

Oh man, I still have that installed, I actually rather enjoyed that, and I thought the mapping was fantastic, will you be doing anything more like that?

Hey, my name's Tom. I'm 20, but I've been making games for only about 3 or 4 years. Spent most of my time working with Flash, but I started using Unity last year, and I'm trying to branch out more and more. I'm mostly a programmer, but I'm super interested in design, and I'm trying really hard to further myself in that area. Also working at getting my art quality up. I have an internship this summer, which means anything I make at the moment is company property, but as soon as school starts up again I'm gonna be finishing up a game with some friends to enter in IGF, and I'm hoping to get a few personal projects going as well.

You can check out my site http://www.noxioushamster.com/ if you're interested.

Postby Jonny D » Sun Jul 03, 2011 9:09 pm

Hey, I'm Jonny D. I know a bunch of you guys already, but it's nice to have a formal super friendship now. ;)

I've been making games and tools in C++ and SDL for a while, on the side of getting through college and grad school in physics. I was in the digital arts club at Kyle Pulver's university back in the day, put together a bunch of little games thanks to Ludum Dare, worked as a summer programming intern at Muzzy Lane, and I taught at a high school for a year.

The biggest news lately is that I've decided not to pursue 'external' employment in favor of finishing my game, GigaSun Jet, and making more progress on my most fun game ideas.

I'm in the seacoast NH/Boston area, so expect to see me at some Boston area meetings. I tweet @grimfang4
