Super Friendship Club Exists(Post problems/suggestions here)

Welcome to Super Friendship Club!

So, we're just getting started here. The crew consists of

Web admins : Perrin + Calvin
Moderators : Terry, Jonas, Ed, Jasper, Draknek, Alan
Pageants : Me

Main priority right now is to bring the forums to life. We still have a bunch of things to sort out : forum appearance being the main one - we hope to fix it up over the next while. If you are interested in contribute on that front, send a message to me or one of the moderators.

There might be expansions in Other Directions in the future, but baby steps are the order of the day for now.

If you notice any strange things about the forums/site, or have any comments or suggestions, let us know either in private messages, or below. The mods may not discuss them publicly, but all will be looked at + considered.

Thoughts on the presentation of the forum:

- A favicon.ico would be nice. Here are some attempts of mine at making a favicon resembling the "S" from agj's logo image:

.ico versions here, here, here

I think I like Image best, but I do not think I am satisfied with any of these. Anyone want to take a shot?

(Logo source images here and here-- hope agj does not mind I am linking these.)

- Templates probably could use some refining. (Mix of orange + dark blue + light gray seems strange, the light gray separators mean half the time there does not seem to be a lot of clear division between posts, there is the red and orange... swirl... thing.) Does anyone have familiarity with tweaking PHPbb themes?

- I think it would help, if this is possible, if the forum front page had a little one-sentence summary of each forum underneath the name, so it is clearer to new visitors what they mean. Maybe something like:

Projects
Show off particular games/prototypes/designs you are working on, get comments and feedback.

Pageants
We challenge the Super Friendship Club with a theme for a game; see what you can make in one month.

Process
Non-project-specific matters-- talk about art, music, writing, coding and the creative process.

I like this one too, but the edges are a little harsh for my taste. Maybe this edit is a little better: Image

I'm in agreement with the rest of your suggestions too. Personally, I don't see the need for the swirly image at all, and I'm fine with removing it entirely. However, if we want to replace it with a different image instead, that's fine too.

Also, the "Options" thing with the palette plate up top should probably go away if at all possible.

Hoorah, it lives! Needed a place like this to be honest. I've posted it around a bit (by that I mean on my Twitter and stuff, but indie developers follow me there) and hopefully others will too so that it gets a lil' attention.

I saw it shared on a blog I have since forgotten, and joined immediately! I hope it turns into a wonderful little community. I've been looking for something like this for quite some time now.

Hey, I just noticed that there is no 'Rules' page like forums usually have. Or is it just well-hidden? What is the policy towards double posts in here?

Cool forum.

I'm not used to phpBB though, so I keep accidentally clicking safe draft when I go to reply. But now I found out how to get to my saved drafts so I can just jump into my control panel and publish them properly when I do it.

I love the name "Super Friendship Club" so much. Excellent!

Yo. Someone's tossing together some rules, but they're pretty minimal. They will appear sometime soon. Don't expect guidelines about how many posts in a row you can or can't make - just try to exercise your common sense, and mods will be in touch if they feel you're going off the rails.

Also, welcome Chevy!

I'm not used to phpBB though

You and me both :P

I am, unfortunately. The old Scirra forum was phpBB. It's very prone to attack from spambots. I was banning sometimes as many as ten a day for a while, until they added some custom captcha for signup. Just a heads up I guess :)

Rules are live.

I used to be way more familiar with phpBB than SMF, now not so much. The one thing I'm currently finding I'm not a fan of is the way that a forum is always considered unread if it has any unread posts in it.

I've heard it said somewhere, "The first rule of Super Friendship Club is SUPER FRIENDSHIP!"

And I believe you can mark forums as read if you feel the need. (although I also find it a bit annoying, if others feel the same I'll look into what it would take to change it)

The name is cool, forum's looking good, surprisingly active for a few-day-old site... but one thing seems unclear... Another indie gamedev forum? - why exactly?

Is it primarily to organise contests/events? - or aiming to provide an alternative/competition to the likes of the TIGSource or IndieGamer forums?

Welcome to the super friendship club, bluescrn!

As for your questions, I can't think of anything to say by way of response other than to direct you to the front page blurb.

Hey bluescrn, nice to see you've found your way here too :-)

I'd say that this is more of an alternative to other forums than it is competition - it's just another friendly place to hang out, with maybe a slightly different feel to it than other places, and, for me at least, a stronger focus on making games rather than playing them...
